In 1907, Imperial opens the world’s first service station in Vancouver. Self-serve gas stations Imperial introduced the first self-serve retail stations to Canada in 1970, in Montreal and Toronto.

This was the flagship of a number of service stations that Imperial Oil built in the Victoria area. It opened on June 19, 1931 and functioned on three levels. The lower two levels were reached by a ramp wide enough to accommodate two vehicles abreast, and housed repair stations with a total capacity of 120 cars. Imperial Oil Ltd. is thinking about selling 500 gas stations to partners who would continue to sell fuel under the Esso brand. Roughly two-thirds of Imperial's 1,700 Esso stations across Canada have been operating under what it calls a "branded wholesaler" model for about 15 years. Imperial Oil ranks as the biggest oil refiner in the country. It is also one of the largest chemical producers in Canada. Additionally, Imperial Oil markets petroleum products through its network Staff know nothing aoubt their product or Imperial oil, did not know who they were. They mummble and seem uninterested in your business, very bored looking. Store is very dirty and smells. It is sad but it is the only of two gas stations left in the westend, and I gather this one will close soon
